South African National AIDS Council Appoints a New Chief Executive Officer. 28/8/2017

The South African National AIDS Council Board of Trustees today announced that Dr. Sandile Buthelezi has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer of the South African National AIDS Council (SANAC). He will commence his duties on 1 September 2017.
Dr. Buthelezi is a seasoned public health medical practitioner with more than 15 years’ experience in health governance and policy. After serving as a clinician in various hospitals in KwaZulu-Natal and the Free State province, he served as KwaZulu-Natal’s provincial head of HIV, maternal child and communicable diseases programmes. Since 2014, Dr. Buthelezi has been South Africa Country Director for ICAP at Columbia University, which is a division of the New York-based Mailman School of Public Health.
SANAC Board Chairperson Dr. Ayanda Ntsaluba expressed his sincere gratitude to SANAC Executive Manager Dr. Connie Kganakga, who acted as CEO during the appointment process period. “Dr. Kganakga admirably held the ship together with spirited positivity and professionalism during the process of appointing a CEO, and the Board is very grateful for her leadership.”
